Tortuguero One Day Tour Sample Itinerary
The following is an example of an itinerary for the One – Day Tour to Tortuguero in Costa Rica. Your specific tour may vary according to climatic conditions, river water volume, etc.
5:30am. At this hour we generally begin picking up tour participants at their hotels. You may also be picked up at other previously arranged locations.
The tour will begin as we cross the mountains within the Braulio Carrillo National Park, this is the second largest national park in Costa Rica.
10:00am. By this time of the morning, we will be on the docks and ready to board our boat with a course set for Tortuguero. This will be a trip through the freshwater canals and rivers of the park headed for the village of Tortuguero and National Park. On this boat tour you will appreciate the abundant animal life.
Along the way your guide will be explaining details and intricacies of this powerful habitat. You will definitely have the chance to examine a tropical Rainforest from within. The Rain Forest of Tortuguero National Park has an extension of more than 71.660 acres.
Tortuguero is one of the most important nesting sites of Chelonia Midas, the green sea turtle. Where its forests and waterways are home for such endangered mammals such as sloths, monkeys, agoutis, coatimundis and manatees. There are also abundant birds, such as toucans, trogons, egrets, herons and aninghas, as well as crocodiles, turtles and countless colorful butterflies, including blue morpho.
11:30am. We will be arriving at the village. There in the village we will be having lunch. After Lunch we will be taking a walking tour around the Village of Tortuguero. During the tour you will be receiving a tutorial from your guide referring to the history of Tortuguero and its inhabitants.
During hiking. You will be able to observe the main river of Tortuguero National Park off to one side of the boat and the Caribbean Sea (Atlantic) off the other.
During the expedition within Tortuguero you will be able to see crocodiles, many different bird species, monkeys and a wide variety of endemic trees and plants all the while appreciating the unique Rainforest environmental of the park.
4:00pm. Around this time in the late afternoon we will be arriving back to the buses we left at the docks in the morning. We should be back to San Jose around 7:00-7:30pm in the evening, leaving your mind and heart teeming with astounding memories of Tortuguero.
Note: For the better enjoyment of the tour, we will change itinerary in case of bad weather, road or river conditions.
What to Bring: Hat, light clothes, closed toe shoes, extra t-shirt (in case of rain), Jacket (could be cold in the afternoon), bottled water. Do not forget your camera.
Note: Turtle nesting tour is not available for the one-day tour.
